Dr. Sayer is an Associate Professor of Language Education Studies.  He was a Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence in Puebla Mexico until 2012, when he moved to work at University of Texas at San Antonio until 2017.

Dr. Sayer's recently published works include his 2012 book Ambiguities and tensions in English language teaching: Portraits of EFL teachers as legitimate speakers (New York 2012), article titled "Differentiated linguistic strategies of bilingual professionals on the U.S.-Mexico border" in Critical Inquiry in Language Studies, and "Developing a collaborative qualitative research project across borders: Issues and dilemmas" in The Qualitative Report.
